Family Portraits of the Past

d_colpitts_extended_family_studio_portrait_001a.png

Diana Colpitts extended family studio portrait.

Family portraits are an important way to help remember ancestors and relatives, which are often passed down throughout generations as a rememberance of those who came before them.

For Armenian descendants such as Jennie, Mari, and Diana, these photos hold a deep significance in not only remembering who their ancestors were, but also preserving the memories from a time where there was an attempt to erase Armenians and their entire culture. These photographs are proof of the Armenian lives that existed before, during, and after the genocide, and will continue to live on and remain unforgotten. While Jennie, Mari and Diana may not have their own personal memories of who these people were, the stories passed down from their parents and family members provide valuable insight on their lives and identities.
